Shared household bills calculator

Work out each housemate’s share of rent, utilities or a one-off shared purchase. Add your bills, agree on equal or percentage shares, and keep an itemized summary.

No login. Your entries stay in this page’s memory and disappear when you reset, reload or leave. They are not sent to a server or saved in your browser. Downloads and printed copies are yours to keep private.

Your worksheet

The starting worksheet is an editable example: one EUR 100.00 bill and three people. Reset it to start with blank entries.

Use one currency for every bill. Changing this label does not convert amounts. Do not combine currencies; make separate worksheets instead. JPY uses whole yen; KWD uses three decimal places; the other options use two.

One per line, 1–12 people, up to 40 characters each. Use distinct nicknames; blank lines are ignored.

Enter each person’s percentage, with at most two decimal places. The total must be exactly 100%. The same percentages apply to every bill.

Itemized bills

Add 1–24 bills. Use a dot or comma as the decimal separator, without thousands separators or currency symbols. Amounts must be non-negative; the total must be greater than zero.

Who owes what

Each bill is calculated in the currency’s smallest unit. Shares are rounded down first; leftover units go to the largest fractional remainders. Ties follow the participant order above. Each bill and the final shares add up exactly.

These are cost shares, not a transfer settlement. Previous payments, reimbursements and who paid each bill are not included. Agree on shares with your housemates before using the summary.

How to split household bills

List only the costs everyone has agreed to share. Choose one currency, enter distinct nicknames and add a name and amount for each bill. Equal shares divide every bill by the participant count. Percentage shares use your agreed proportions for every bill; zero-percent participants are allowed. Check the itemized result before downloading or printing.

A worked rounding example

For one EUR 100.00 bill shared equally by Alex, Sam and Jo, the exact share is 33.333… euros. The worksheet gives Alex EUR 33.34, Sam EUR 33.33 and Jo EUR 33.33. Alex receives the extra cent because all three fractional remainders tie and Alex is first. The total remains EUR 100.00. With multiple bills, rounding happens separately for each bill, so one person can receive more than one extra cent.

For the same EUR 100.00 bill with 50%, 30% and 20% shares, the costs are EUR 50.00, EUR 30.00 and EUR 20.00. A total such as 99.99% or 100.01% is rejected rather than silently adjusted. This example illustrates arithmetic, not a recommendation about how your household should share expenses.
