Laundry cost calculator
See what one wash costs using your own electricity, water and detergent prices. Start with your numbers or try the worked example, then adjust the number of loads you wash each week.
No account needed. Your entries stay in this page’s memory and are cleared when you reload. They are not sent or saved.
Your laundry inputs
Complete every field with a nonnegative number. Zero is valid, including for a free or excluded component. Use the same currency for all prices.
Changing currency changes the label only; it does not convert prices.
Your cost estimate
Enter all six values to see the cost breakdown. Your prices are not prefilled.
Calculations keep full precision. Displayed amounts are rounded to at most four decimal places; the CSV keeps unrounded values.
How the cost per load is calculated
Cost per load = (kWh per load × electricity price per kWh) + (litres per load ÷ 1,000 × water price per m³) + detergent cost per load. Weekly cost multiplies that total by loads per week. The annual estimate multiplies weekly cost by exactly 52, not by a calendar-year day count.
Use your bill’s variable water charge per cubic metre. If wastewater is billed by volume, include that rate too when appropriate. A cubic metre is 1,000 litres. For detergent, divide the pack price by the number of loads you actually get from it. Check your own bill and appliance information for the inputs.
Worked example: 0.65 per load
In one chosen currency, 0.8 kWh × 0.25 = 0.20 for electricity. Water uses 50 ÷ 1,000 × 3 = 0.15. Add 0.30 for detergent: 0.20 + 0.15 + 0.30 = 0.65 per load. At 5 loads per week, that is 3.25 per week and 169.00 over 52 weeks (260 loads). These numbers illustrate the arithmetic; they are not typical costs or a savings promise.
What this estimate includes
This estimate covers the three variable wash costs you enter. It excludes tumble drying, appliance purchase or repairs, fixed utility charges and your time. Actual consumption depends on your machine, programme and load. A partial year or changing prices will give a different total. Fractional weekly loads can describe an average over several weeks.
